Facial recognition check-in

There’s a new way to check in for appointments. With facial recognition, we use your photo to positively identify you.

What are biometrics?

Biometrics identify a person based on physical or behavioral characteristics. You might use biometrics on your smartphone — when you use your fingerprint to open the lock screen or to pay a bill. Features that can be used include:

  • Fingerprint
  • Palm
  • Voice
  • Face
  • Eye

At Geisinger, we use facial recognition.

When you enroll in facial recognition check-in, you get:

Improved security — When you arrive for your appointment, just give us your name. We’ll use your photo to confirm your identity. That means you no longer have to share your:

  • Date of birth
  • Social Security number
  • Medical record number

Quicker registration process — Having less information to verify means you spend less time checking in.

How to enroll

Getting started is easy and free, and it only takes a few minutes. At your next appointment at participating locations, a staff member will ask if you’d like to enroll in facial recognition check-in.

It’s optional and you can unenroll at any time. To learn more, ask a staff member about facial recognition check-in at your next visit.

Where can I use facial recognition check-in?

You can check in using facial recognition in communities throughout Geisinger’s footprint, including Muncy, Jersey Shore, Danville, Wilkes-Barre, State College and Pittston. As we continue to roll out facial recognition check-in at more locations, watch for it to come to a clinic near you.
